Session Title: Intracorneal Inlays for Presbyopia

Session Date/Time: Tuesday 08/09/2015 | 16:00-18:00

Paper Time: 17:00

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate binocular functionality in patients implanted with hydrogel corneal inlay (Raindrop Near Vision Inlay, ReVision Optics, Inc., Lake Forest, CA, USA) in either one or both eyes.

Setting:

Single Site, Laser Ocular Hidalgo, Monterrey Mexico

Methods:

Prospective, non-randomized, study of patients previously implanted with Raindrop Inlay in one or both eyes. Patients with at least 6 months post inlay surgery were consecutively enrolled within each group. All inlays were implanted under a femtosecond flap (1/3 central corneal thickness) onto the stromal bed, centered on the light constricted pupil. ETDRS binocular visual acuities, reading speed, contrast sensitivity and stereopsis were evaluated.

Results:

Bilateral Raindrop group (RR, n=12) and unilateral Raindrop group (R, n=19) both showed good binocular UVAs (logMAR) for distance (RR: 0.12, R: 0.07) and near (RR: 0.14, R: 0.24). Patients with 2 inlays showed slightly better stereopsis (RR: 59 secs, R: 91 secs). Maximum reading speed (RR: 210 wpm, R: 194 wpm), reading acuity (RR: 0.12 logMAR, R: 0.19 logMAR), and photopic contrast sensitivity were all similar between the 2 groups.

Conclusions:

Bilateral and unilateral Raindrop patients showed equally good binocular acuity at distance and near as well as functional reading performance. Stereopsis was slightly improved with 2 inlays.
