Abstract Details

Purpose:

Different options for retreatment procedures after ReLEx®Smile are presented and discussed.

Setting:

Augen-OP-Centrum Koeln

Methods:

From July 2011 to March 2015 24 retreatments (mean refractive error -0,72 dpt) of ReLEx®Smile (n=1422 eyes) have been performed. Optionally we did surface ablation (PRK), standard flap preparation with following excimer laser ablation, “Circle-procedure” (single sidecut) with following excimer laser ablation and Re-Smile (Smile post Smile).

Results:

The refractive and visual outcomes after enhancement have been excellent in all cases. PRK patients (without use of MMC) developed haze degree 2 in all cases and had a longer recovery time as usual. The recovery time of the patients with a flap procedure or Re-Smile has been within 1-2 days. Typical case reports are presented.

Conclusions:

Retreatments of the ReLEx®Smile are easy to perform. The visual and refractive outcomes are excellent in all cases. The PRK and Re-Smile option preserve the biomechanical stability of the cornea. Other options are converting the cap into a flap with consequently lack of corneal stability.
