Abstract Details

Purpose:

Comparative evaluation of optic nerve and macula blood flow associated with small-incision clear-cornea cataract surgery.

Setting:

LaserVision.gr Clinical and Research Eye Institute, Athens, Greece.

Methods:

We evaluated 35 consecutive eyes subjected to uneventful cataract surgery.. All cases were evaluated for refraction, visual acuity, keratometry, tomography, pachymetry, endothelial cell counts, intraocular pressure, and were imaged prior, at day 1, week 1 and first month, with the angioflow software of the Avanti spectral domain OCT (Optovue, USA).

Results:

Optic nerve angioflow showed change at week 1 in 12 cases, and macula angioflow in 2, also at week 1 suggesting subclinical Irvin-Gass syndrome. None of the cases showed angioflow deviation at month 1.

Conclusions:

Transient vascular flow pathology was evident in uneventful clear cornea cataract surgery with this non-invassive vascular flow study. These data may caution clinicians in the post-opreative anti-inflammatory regimen chosen and used as long as its duration of administration.
