Abstract Details

Purpose:

Evaluation the visual as well as the reading performance of a new extendend-depth of focus (EDOF) intraocular lens.

Setting:

International Vision Correction Research Centre Network , Germany(IVCRC.net)

Methods:

In this ongoing prospective, multicenter study 30 eyes of 15 patients have so far received the Tecnis ZXR00 EDOF IOL (Abbott Medical Optics Inc., USA). Follow up examinations included: Uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity (UDVA, CDVA), uncorrected and distance corrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA, DCIVA) and uncorrected and distance corrected near visual acuity (UNVA, DCNVA). Furthermore the reading acuity at the preferred near and intermediate distances was calculated by the SRD with consideration of the reading distance, speed and the print size. A subjective questionnaire was also performed.

Results:

Results yielded a median UDVA of 0.06 logMAR and a median UNVA of 0.20 logMAR whereas median UIVA was 0.00 logMAR .The improved performance at intermediate distance was confirmed by the SRD, which showed an uncorrected reading acuity of 0.12 logMAR (41.00cm) and an uncorrected intermediate acuity of 0.08 logMA(65.2cm).

Conclusions:

The new EDOF IOL provides good results not only at far and intermediate distances but also provides an improvement of the near visual acuity. Therefore patients reported a high rate of satisfaction and spectacle independence at the various distances.
