Abstract Details

Purpose:

To demonstrate a simple technique for viewing the cornea at the slit lamp and rendering visible otherwise hidden features.

Setting:

Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, UK Warwickshire Hospital, England

Methods:

A hand held circular polarising filter is used at the slit lamp with the incident and exit light passing through the filter. This causes rotation of the polarisation planes and effective cross polarisation imaging of the cornea and lens.

Results:

This technique highlights stress and biomechanical effects within the cornea and is a very useful technique for the corneal and refractive surgeon.

Conclusions:

This is a simple and very effective clinical technique

Financial Interest:
