Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the agreement of horizontal white-to-white (WTW), axial length (AL), anterior chamber depth (ACD, from corneal epithelium to lens surface) and central mean keratometry (K) measurements between the optical coherence interferometer IOL-Master (IOLM, Zeiss) and the dual Scheimpflug analyzer Galilei (G6, Ziemer)

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, Pallas Clinic, Zurich, Switzerland

Methods:

Prospective randomised cross-sectional study of 118 eyes of 118 patients (39.4 ± 10.2 years) who attended to preoperative consultation and biometric evaluation prior to refractive surgery. Paired samples t-test was used to compare the mean of the measurements after normal distribution was confirmed with Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and Bland-Altman plots were used to assess agreement between the two devices.

Results:

Pair wise comparison of all analysed parameters revealed statistically significant but clinically irrelevant differences (WTW: IOLM 12.1±0.3, G6 12.3±0.4 mm; AL: IOLM 24.8±1.2, G6 24.9±1.3 mm; ACD: IOLM 3.6±0.4, G6 3.7±0.4mm; K: IOLM 43.9±1.5, G6 43.7±1.5 dpt). The analysis showed also narrow 95% limits of agreement (LoA) between the two devices for AL and K but not for WTW and ACD.

Conclusions:

The parameters analysed showed good agreement and can therefore be used interchangeably between the two devices for AL and K but not so for WTW or ACD measurements.
