Abstract Details

Purpose:

Preliminary prospective evaluation of refractive and visual outcomes following implantation of a Toric Trifocal Diffractive Lens Implant, the Physiol FINEvision Pod Trifocal Toric following cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange.

Setting:

Centre for Sight, London, East Grinstead and Oxshott, UK :Private ambulatory Surgical Centre

Methods:

The data of 9 consecutive patients (18 eyes) undergoing bilateral implantation of the FINEvision Trifocal Toric lens implant (Physiol, Liège, Belgium) following femtosecond laser (Victus laser, Bausch and Lomb-Technolas, Munich Germany) and Microincisional (1.8mm) surgery were analysed. Visual data (UDVA, CDVA, UNVA and Uncorrected intermediate vision at 60 and 80cm), refractive outcomes and lens stability data were collected at 1 month. Contrast sensitivity testing will be performed at 3 months follow-up.

Results:

Mean age at surgery was 62 years (46 to 81). All lenses were centred and <5 degrees of intended astigmatic axis. Preoperative Spherical equivalent was -4.53 D ± 5.44 D and mean astigmatism -1.71 D ± 0.87 D. Mean postoperative spherical equivalent reduced to -0.05 D ± 0.36 D and mean postoperative astigmatism was -0.54 D ± 0.39 D. Monocular UDVA was 20/25 in 79%. Binocular UDVA was 20/20 in 91%. Monocular UNVA at 40cm was 20/30 in 79%.. Binocularly UNVA was 20/30 in 100% and 20/25 in 75%. Monocular UIVA at 60cm was 20/30 or more in 86%,

Conclusions:

The FINEvision Trifocal Toric lens implant provides excellent refractive outcomes with highly predictable and reliable reduction in cylinder as well as good visual outcomes at distance, intermediate and near. The lens is stable once implanted with no evidence of rotation.
