Abstract Details

Purpose:

Evaluate the refractive results and safety in the medium term of intra-saccular toric intraocular lens implantation, model Precizon Toric® in 58 patients (85 eyes).

Setting:

Toric lens. Intraocular lens. Cataract surgery. Astigmatism. Phacoemulsification. Instituto de Microcirugía Ocular, Barcelona, Spain

Methods:

The parameters analyzed were best visual acuity without correction (UCVA) and best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), preoperative astigmatism and postoperative residual astigmatism and the occurrence of per and postoperative complications.

Results:

At 6 months of follow-up, the total mean UCVA was 0.61 in decimal scale (0.21467 in logMAR scale), the 36% with AVSC greater than 0.8 and 16% with AV 1. The BCVA was 0.86 in decimal scale (0.0655015 in logMAR scale). The mean preoperative astigmatism was -1.65 diopters (D), the average total postoperative astigmatism -0.51 D. There were no intraoperative complications and postoperative complications were 1 case of cystoid macular edema, and in 7 patients (0 09%) was necessary an additional laser procedure (3 photorefractive keratectomy and 4 situ keratomileusis laser) to improve AVSC in the dominant eye.

Conclusions:

Precizon Toric® model of toric lenses can correct preoperative astigmatism with a high success rate as far as AVSC and postoperative residual astigmatism is concerned, with a minimum number of complications at 6 months postoperatively
