Abstract Details

Purpose:

To carry out the analysis of clinical and functional results of phacoemulsification with different models of TIOL implantation in patients with stabilized keratectatic process.

Setting:

The S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution, Russia

Methods:

The investigation is based on the analysis of treatment results of 30 eyes (22 patients) with the lens opacification that have undergone ICRS implantation together with CXL. The average patients' age was 46,5±1,2, 5 eyes had II stage keratoconus, 7 – III stage keratoconus, 12 – PMD, 6 – secondary post-Lasik keratectasias). Equal number of the following TIOL models were implanted: Acrysof IQ Toric (Alcon) and AT TORBI 709M (Carl Zeiss). The follow-up period was 24 months.

Results:

In all cases a considerable increase of VA was achieved independently on TIOL model. Average UCVA and BCVA were 0,12±0,05 and 0,7±0,18, respectively. There was also a hyperopic shift from the target refraction, +1,5±0,1 in average (р<0,05). TIOL rotational stability stayed highly stable throughout follow-up period. There was no keratectasia progress mentioned across the follow-up.

Conclusions:

Cataract phacoemulsification with TIOL implantation in patients with stabilized keratectatic process is an effective and safe treatment method. However, the experience of adequate IOL power calculation is needed to be gained, as well as a longer follow-up period in order to study the long-term clinical results based on the modern diagnostic methods.
