Abstract Details

Purpose:

Capsulotomy is an important step in cataract surgery. Laser has a potential to perform capsulotomy with a high precision and reproducibility. The world first clinical experience with the new laser which is far less complex compared to current systems will be presented.

Setting:

Gemini Eye Clinics,Czech Republic

Methods:

Capsulas laser was used to create capsulotomy during cataract surgery in 10 eyes with cataract without any other intraocular pathology or any previous surgery. After incisions and intraocular anesthesy 0,3mm of traphan blue solution was applied on the anterior lens capsule and was washed out by Ringer solution after 30 seconds. Then the circular capsulotomy of 5mm diameter was created by Capsulas laser.

Results:

Complete circular capsulotomy was achieved in all 10 eyes. The cataract surgery was performed with no complications in all cases.

Conclusions:

The first experience is positive. The new Capsulas laser is significantly less complex and less expensive compared to current femtosecond lasers which can make laser capsulotomy much easily available for cataract surgeons worldwide compared to current technology.
