Abstract Details

Purpose:

To analyze aberrometry values after carrying out LASIK surgeries by standard and personalized algorithms of ablation on a 'VISX STAR S4 IR™' excimer laser machine.

Setting:

Medical center Sihat Koz, Tashkent, Uzbekistan

Methods:

Clinical research study is based on aberrometry values of 26 patients (48 eyes) before and after LASIK surgeries on a 'WaveScan Wave Front' aberrometer (USA). Age of patients were 25.4±9.8 years old averagely. Depending on the surgery conducted, patients were divided into two groups: 1st group - 10 patients (20 eyes) surgically operated by standard algorithm, 2nd group - 16 patients (28 eyes) - by personalized algorithm of ablation, 'CustomVue® Treatment'. Spherical equivalent (SE) - Eff. Blur (D), made averagely 4.89±2.3. Share of higher aberrations - Hi Order Aberrations - varied from 2.5% to 29.6%, and made 8.74±7.5% averagely.

Results:

After surgery, in the 1st group the SEQ value reduced to 0.67±0.52 with standard deviation to 0.56±0.33. Share of higher aberrations increased averagely up to 36.4±11.5%. In the 2nd group, the SEQ after surgery made 0.35±0.12, while standard deviation was equal to 0.45±0.32. Statistically, at high confidence, in comparison with both source data and after-surgery values of the 1st group, the share of higher aberrations increased up to 65.5%±23.4, that is a criterion of successfully performed laser ablation.

Conclusions:

Conduction of LASIK surgeries by personalized algorithm of ablation on 'VISX STAR S4 IR™' excimer laser machine, results in confident reduction of spherocylindrical aberrations which is reflected in increase of share of higher aberrations up to 65.5%.
