Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report the visual outcomes and change in corneal aberration in Indian eyes treated using the FS200 laser (Alcon Laboratories Inc).

Setting:

Iladevi Cataract & IOL Research Centre and RAghudeep Eye Hospital, India

Methods:

Prospective, observational series included 72 eyes with myopia, myopic astigmatism or pure astigmatism (spherical equivalent -0.75 to -9.37 D), undergoing Wavefront-Optimized Femto-LASIK using the EX500 (Alcon Laboratories Inc) and FS200 lasers. Pre- and 3 month postoperative uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) and higher-order aberrations (HOAs), as measured on the I-Trace aberrometer (Tracey Technologies, USA) were compared.

Results:

At 3 months, 89% of eyes had a UDVA of 20/25 or better and 98% had 20/30 or better. All eyes had a postoperative CDVA of 20/25 or better. An increase was found in mean spherical aberration of 0.22+0.27 microns(P=0.01) at a 6 mm pupil. However, when measured at the physiologic mesopic pupil size there was a slight decrease of -0.01+0.03 microns(P=0.19) in mean spherical aberrations. An increase in coma was noted of 0.03+0.05 microns(P=0.004).An increase was found in total higher order aberrations of 0.04 +/- 0.06 microns (P =0.004)

Conclusions:

Wavefront-optimized Femto-LASIK with the EX500 and FS200 lasers achieved excellent postoperative UDVA outcomes, with no significant induction of spherical aberration at mesopic pupil size
