Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess the long-term outcome and complication profile of intrascleral haptic fixated posterior chamber intraocular lens.

Setting:

R P Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All India Institute of Medical Sciences

Methods:

Forty eyes of 32 patients who had undergone primary or secondary intrascleral haptic fixated posterior chamber IOL were studied for long term outcome and presence of any complication.

Results:

The IOL was centered in all the eyes. There was no significant tilt or decenteration in any eye. Ultrasound biomicroscopy showed good stability and negligible pseudophacodonesis in all the eyes. There was no significant anterior chamber reaction in any eye. The intraocular pressure was normal in all the eyes.

Conclusions:

Intrascleral-fixated intraocular lens implantation is valuable for the management of aphakia in the absence of capsular support. The long-term outcomes and safety profiles are favourable.
