Abstract Details
Purpose:
To analyse the results of myopia and myopic astigmatism correction using the newest - only femtosecond laser method- ReLEx Smile.
Setting:
Mavit Medical Center,Warsaw, Poland
Methods:
From Decembre 2013 to February 2015 - 66 patients (132 eyes) underwent ReLEx Smile procedure. In this study we included only eyes with follow-up longer than 3 months, that is 60 eyes of 30 patients ( 19 women and 11 men). The follow-up was from 3 to 12 months (average 7 months). The corrected myopia was from -0,75D to -8,5D (average -4,67D0, astigmatism from -0,25D to -2,25D (average -0,9D). Preoperative BCVA was from 0,8 to 1,0. ReLEx Smile, intrastromal lenticule extraction, was performed in local (drops) anesthesy using the femtosecond laser VISUMAX from Carl Zeiss Meditec.
Results:
Postoperative UCVA was from 0,7 to 1,0. BCVA from 0,8 to 1,0. There were no BCVA lines lost. The intraoperative complications were: bleeding from limbal corneal vessels in 2 eyes, erosion near the incision in 3 eyes, peripheral lenticule rupture in 1 eye. The postoperative complications were: post-steroids raise of intraocular pressure in 2 eyes, problems with night vision in 1 patient. The dry eye symptoms were very light, postoperative pain very small.
Conclusions:
ReLEx Smile is an effective, safe, small-pain method of myopia and myopic astigmatism laser correction. During this period of observation the postoperative refraction was very stable.
