Abstract Details
Purpose:
Evaluation of clinical and refractive outcomes of Refractive Lenticule Extraction (ReLEx®Smile) technique to correct low degree of myopia and myopic astigmatism.
Setting:
Augencentrum Köln, Cologne, Germany
Methods:
187 consecutive eyes underwent a treatment with ReLEx®Smile to correct low degree of myopia and myopic astigmatism (range: -0.75 to -3.0 Diopter (D)). Mean spherical equivalent (SE) of refractive error was -2.2 D preoperatively. Outcome measures included visual and refractive results.
Results:
No intraoperative complications occurred. All eyes were followed-up for at least 6 months postoperatively. Postoperative SE of refractive error was between ±0.5 D in all cases and between ±0.25 D in 71% of cases at last follow-up. Corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) was unchanged in 58% of cases, 38% gained 1 line of CDVA, 2% gained 2 lines of CDVA and 2% lost 1 line of CDVA. Night vision problems have not been reported postoperatively.
Conclusions:
ReLEx®Smile is a new effective approach in laser refractive surgery for correction of low degree of myopia and myopic astigmatism with excellent refractive and visual outcomes.
