Abstract Details

Purpose:

To analyze the visual outcomes, patients satisfaction and spectacle independence, after surgery bilateral implantation of difractives trifocal intraocular lenses (IOL), and comparison with difractive bifocal IOL.

Setting:

Clinica Baviera,Spain

Methods:

Retrospective series of case study after phacoemulsification with bilateral implant of difractive trifocal and bifocal IOL performed in 10593 patients: FineVision MF IOL (Group 1: 2401 patients), AT LISA tri 839 MP IOL (Group 2: 1944 patients), AT LISA bifocal 366 (Group 3: 3988 patients), and AcrySof IQ ReStor +3 (Group 4: 2620 patients). Over least 3-month follow-up, the main outcome measures were binocular uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) (Snellen chart), binocular uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA) at 70 cm (Jaeger chart), binocular uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA) at 33 cm (Jaeger chart), patients satisfaction, and use of spectacles.

Results:

Mean ± SD postoperative uncorrected distance, intermediate and near VA were: (Group 1) 0,97 ± 0,07, 3,75 ± 1,45, and 1,91 ± 1,07 respectively; (Group 2) 0,97 ± 0,07, 3,87 ± 1,63, and 1,97 ± 1,08 respectively; (Group 3) 0,96 ± 0,08, 7,38 ± 3,2 and 1,79 ± 1,06 respectively; (Group 4) 0,96 ± 0,08, 7,31 ± 3,06 and 1,74 ± 1,04 respectively. The percentage of satisfied patients was: 99 %, 97 % , 95 %, and 97%, respectively Groups 1, 2, 3, 4. Spectacle expressed independence: 88.77%, 88.63%, 86.46%, and 85.72% respectively Groups 1, 2, 3, 4.

Conclusions:

Multifocal difractive IOL models provided excellent distance, and near vision outcomes. Trifocal IOL providing excellent intermediate vision in comparison with bifocal IOL. Expressed satisfaction and spectacle independence was high with all models of IOL.
