An analysis of the relationship between onset time and choroidal thickness in myopic patients

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To research the relationship between Onset time(T) and Choroidal thickness(CT) in myopic patients by spectral-domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT).

Setting:

Prospective clinical controlled study.

Methods:

120 myopia patients (240 eyes) were divided into three groups：A Group（T= 5 year）、B Group（T=10 year）、C Group（T=15 year）.There were no significant difference in equivalent power（F=1.54,P=0.26）,age（F=2.11,P=0.17）, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) （F=1.42,P=0.31）, corneal curvature（F=1.67,P=0.22） and axial length（F=1.90,P=0.18） between three groups. . CT at subfoveal （SFCT）, 1 mm temporal (T1 mm), nasal (N1 mm), superior (S1 mm) and inferior (I1 mm) to the fovea and 3 mm temporal (T3 mm), nasal (T3 mm), superior (S3 mm) and inferior (I3 mm) to the fovea were recorded respectively.

Results:

The mean SFCT for A,B,C groups were (238.1±58.2）μm、（230.2±67.3） μm、（221.4±62.5） μm in this study.Between A group and B group,CT in all different locations were no significant difference ,except N3 mm（t A-B=4.32,P=0.032）. Between B group and C group,CT in all different locations were no significant difference, except N3 mm（t B-C=7.65,P=0.023）. Between A group and C group, CT in all different locations were significant difference, except T3 mm（t=0.77,P=0.29）.Between A group and B group, B group and C group, A group and C group,there were significant difference in N3 mm（t A-B=4.32,t B-C=7.65,t A-C=12.11,P A-B =0.032, P B-C =0.023, P A-C =0.011）.

Conclusions:

The choroidal thickness was negatively correlated with onset time in myopia patients.
