Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the clinical outcomes of the toric multifocal (T-MF) IOL (Acriva Reviol BB T MFM 611, VSY Biotechnology, Amsterdam) in Asian eyes.
Setting:
A prospective study was done at the Department of Ophthalmology, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University.
Methods:
30 eyes (15 cataract patients) were enrolled. The T-MF IOL was implanted bilaterally. The follow up was done at 1 and 3 month. All tests were performed unilaterally and bilaterally. The uncorrected and best-corrected visual acuity were recorded for distance, intermediate and near using standard chart including ETDRS chart (400 cm), intermediate chart (65 cm) and near chart (35 cm). Defocus test was performed (+3.00 to -5.00 D). Contrast sensitivity was measured using functional vision analyzer (Stereo Optical Co., Inc., USA). The MTF analysis, spherical aberration measurement and rotation stability were measured using OPD Scan 3 (Nidek Co., Ltd, Japan).
Results:
The average keratometry, astigmatism and axial length were 44.66±2.17 D,1.95±0.90 D and 23.71 ± 0.51 mm accordingly. The UCVA and BCVA (LogMar) for distance, intermediate and near were 0.09±0.11,0.24±0.15,0.08±0.07 and 0.04±0.07,0.18±0.08,0.05±0.08 respectively. The contrast sensitivity, MTF and defocus test were significantly better in bilateral eye test compared to unilateral eye test. The rotation of the lens from 1 to 3 month was 0.57±0.53 degree. Efficacy of asphericity of the lens was decrease at 5.5 mm pupil. Total spherical aberration exceeded tolerance level (0.384 micron) at 6.8 mm pupil.
Conclusions:
The new T-MF IOL provided good visual acuity for distance, intermediate and near. Rotational stability was excellent. Bilateral implantation may yield better results than unilateral implantation. Patient with scotopic pupil size larger than 6.8 mm should be cautious.
