Purpose:
To evaluate the change in forward light scatter in terms of the ocular scatter index (OSI) with double pass wavefront technology in eyes with dysfunctional lens syndrome after dysfunctional lens replacement.

Methods:
Eyes with dysfunctional lens syndrome undergoing dysfunctional lens replacement were evaluated retrospectively. Double pass wavefront technology (AcuTarget HD, AcuFocus, Inc) was used to measure the OSI both preoperatively and postoperatively. Aspheric monofocal (Tecnis ZCBOO, AMO) and diffractive multifocal (Tecnis ZMBOO, AMO) eyes were divided into groups were compared preoperative to postoperative. Fifty eyes were evaluated and interim analysis is presented.
Results:
The mean preoperative OSI in the aspheric monofocal group (n=8) was 1.729+/- 1.282 and .988+/- .053 after lens replacement (p=0.01). The mean preoperative OSI in the multifocal group (n=8) was 1.157+/-1.403 and 2.057+/-1.340 after lens replacement (p<0.01).
Conclusions:
Dysfunctional lens replacement resulted in a reduction in forward light scatter as measured by the ocular light scatter index when aspheric monofocal IOLs were implanted. Diffractive multifocal IOLs resulted in a statistically significant increase in ocular scatter index after dysfunctional lens replacement.
