Abstract Details
Purpose:
The ReLex® SMILE procedure is considered safe, predictable and effective in treating myopia and myopic astigmatism. However, they are several options to perform an enhancement and we describe a case report of SMILE in SMILE.
Setting:
CLVR, Lyon, France
Methods:
The parameters of the first initial treatment were: -6.50 (-0.25) 30 manifest refraction, 130µm cap thickness, 7.60mm cap diameter, 6.80 mm lenticule diameter, 137µm lenticule thicknesses and 4.5µm spot spacing. The parameters of the enhancement were: -1.00(-1.00) 5 manifest refraction, 130µm cap thickness, 7.50mm cap diameter, 6.50 mm lenticule diameter, 59µm lenticule thicknesses and 4.5µm spot spacing. The laser performs only the inferior lenticule cut and the side cut. The initial smile interface is used as a cap. Then, the surgeon removes the new lenticule by the re-opened initial incision. (Video format)
Results:
After enhancement, the monocular uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) was 20/16 with a manifest refraction to +0.25 (-0.25) 155. The blurred vision had resolved completely.
Conclusions:
To the best of our knowledge, the case report described above is the first detailed report which demonstrated the feasibility and efficacy of enhancement after SMILE procedure by SMILE in SMILE technique for blurred vision after myopia correction. This method retains all initial SMILE advantages. An analysis of more cases would be necessary in order to determine a more definite profile.
