Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the effects of torsional eye tracking during the surgery, the angle error avoided and clinical results on treatment of mild to high corneal astigmatism.
Setting:
Hélios Ophtalmologie, Polyclinique Cote Basque Sud, Saint Jean De Luz, France
Methods:
Data from 93 laser surgery ( LASIK ) from 58 patients were collected .All these eyes have been treated for a myopic or compound myopic astigmatism, with astigmatism from -1.5 Diopter (D) to -5.25 D, average – 2.58± 0.89 D. Preoperatively, patients have been submitted to Sirius ( CSO ) exam to be match during the treatment with the 7thdimension eyetracker of the Schwind Amaris ® laser system. Ability to match the preoperative image with the image of the laser, angle compensated by the static and dynamic tracker are studied.
Refractive results at 6 months are reported.
Results:
The preoperative image of the CSO and the image of the laser have been matched in 100% of the cases leading to successful torsional tracking during all time of all the treatment. The mean absolute static pre-treatment compensation was 2.8 ± 2.48 °(range 0° to 9,6°). The mean absolute dynamic compensation during the treatment was 1.07 ± 0.92 ° (range 0.04° to 3.94°). The mean post-operative cylinder was – 0.44 ± 0.43 D (range 0 to – 2,25 D). Regarding post-operative cylinder it was less than 0.5 D for 64.5 % and less than 1 D for 95.7%.
Conclusions:
Cyclotorsion compensation is useful to limit consequence of torsional displacement of the eye before and during the laser treatment. Good preoperative data lead to good matching between reference picture and peri-operative picture . The major quantitative angle error is the preoperative position of the eye but dynamic torsional tracking improve accuracy treatment .
