Abstract Details
Purpose:
To investigate the visual performance of the Miniwell (SIFI, Italy) multifocal intraocular lens.
Setting:
Ophthalmology clinic of the University Aldo Moro Bari, Italy
Methods:
Patients undergoing cataract surgery of refractive lens exchange and receiving the Miniwell multifocal intraocular lens were analyzed one month postoperatively. Examinations included best corrected distance visual acuity (BCDVA), best distance corrected near visual acuity (BDCNVA), reading speed, defocus curve, constrast sensitivity and haloes assessment.
Results:
The mean BCDVA was 0.03 ±0.13 logMAR. The mean BDCNVA at 40 cm was 0.27 ±0.10 logRad. Analysis of reading performance revealed that patients could read 0.3 logRad at 83.20 ±34.49 words per minutes monocularly and 106.5 ±32.25 words per minutes binocularly. The monocular defocus curve revealed an extended focus depth ranging between +0.5 and -2 D, with LogMAR <0.25. The mean Log contrast sensitivity was 1.96 ±0.45 at 1.5 cpd, 2.12 ±0.06 at 3 cpd, 2.01 ±0.09 at 6 cpd, 1.11 ±0.65 at 12 cpd and 0.81 ±0.50 at 18 cpd. No haloes at night were reported.
Conclusions:
The Miniwell multifocal IOL provides a good visual performance with extended depth of focus.
