Abstract Details
Purpose:
The central port (KS-Aquaport) in the posterior chamber phakic Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) (Staar Surgical Co., Switzerland) define the design of its last model Visian V4c. The V4c lens implant has proved to be effective, predictable, stable and safe for the correction of myopia, and also in terms of intraocular pressure control after surgery, avoiding the necessity to perform a laser iridotomy or surgical iridectomy. Being regarded mostly as a positive asset, the port seems to be responsible for a new photic phenomena, which sometimes affect the quality of vision as severely disabling symptoms. Different treatment options are discussed.
Setting:
Clínica Baviera, Instituto Oftalmológico Europeo. Spain
Methods:
This study recruited patients who had undergone an uneventful implantation of the ICL V4C lens model and who complained during the postoperative period of disabling halos and other photic phenomena in one or both eyes. Treatment options used in the management of these dysphotopsias and their results are described.
Results:
Explantation, rotation and lens exchange have proved to be successful treatment options to correct dysphotopsias attributable to the KS-Aquaport of the Visian ICL V4c.
Conclusions:
The management of the photic phenomena associated with the central port of the Visian V4c ICL is essential to achieve a successful outcome in a certain subset of implanted patients.
