Abstract Details
Purpose:
To assess the visual performance, contrast sensitivity, refractive and aberometric outcomes, patient satisfaction after phacoemulsification with implantation trifocal toric lens (AT LISAtri 939MP) in a follow-up period of 3 months.
Setting:
Premium Clinic Teplice Czech Republic / Vissum Corporation, Alicante, Spain
Methods:
30 eyes of 16 patients with corneal astigmatism greater than +1.25D were enrolled in this prospective study. All patients underwent uncomplicated phacoemulsification surgery with implantation of introcular trifocal lens with toric component. The study protocol included preoperative and postoperative measurement of uncorrected and corrected distance (UDVA/CDVA, 4 m), intermediate (UIVA/CIVA/DCIVA, 66 and 80 cm) and near visual acuity (UNVA/CNVA/DCNVA, 33 and 40cm) and ocular aberrations, as well as postoperative measurement of contrast sensitivity under photopic and mesopic condition. Furthermore, vector analysis using the ASSORT software to analyze the effectiveness of astigmatic correction and patients quality of life were also evaluated.
Results:
Statistically significant improvement were found in uncorrected distance, near and intermediate visual acuity (p<0.01). Postoperatively, significant decrease in refractive cylinder was measured (p<0.01), with all eye showing a postoperative astigmatism smaller than 1 D. Mean magnitude of TIA was 1.87 ± 1.76D and the mean magnitude of SIA was 1.92 ± 1.55 D. We found small, but statistically significant difference between these two parameters (p=0.44). The values of mean ME and DV were very close to zero 0.06 ± 0.30 D and 0.34± 0.25 D respectively. The mean magnitude of AE was positive, 5.80 ± 8.47°. The VF 14 questionnaire gave a mean value of 92.50.
Conclusions:
Trifocal toric IOL are able to provide a complete visual rehabilitation in eyes with preexisting corneal astigmatism and high levels of patient satisfaction associated.
