Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the effect of femtosecond laser intrastromal cylinders created during femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery in 500 consecutive eyes.
Setting:
Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, UK.
Methods:
500 consecutive eyes underwent femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery. All had astigmatism correction with intrastromal astigmatic cylinder arcs created with a femtosecond laser concurrently during cataract surgery, using a Catalys laser system. All eyes underwent pre-op and post op Pentacam topography, iDesign and manifest refraction. The range of anterior corneal cylinders was 0.75 dc to 2.0 dc. The cylinders were placed as paired arcs using an online nomogram - www.femtoemulsification.com.
Results:
The vector magnitude correction achieved 1 month post-op was of 83% intended. There was a difference between with the rule and oblique cylinder treatment outcome (p<0.05).
Conclusions:
Femtosecond instrastromal astigmatic keratectomies are effective for management of astigmatism in modern cataract surgery.
