Abstract Details
Purpose:
A case of a 87 year old lady with asteroid hyalosis is presented, who underwent combined cataract surgery and anterior vitrectomy through PCCC.
Setting:
Department of Ophthalmology, University of Pécs, Hungary
Methods:
After phacoemulsification a capsulorhexis was performed on the posterior capsule (PCCC) through which anterior vitrectomy (750 cut/min) was performed to remove hyalin bodies from the vitreous. A hydrophobic acrylic PC-IOL was implanted into the capsular bag.
Results:
The preoparative visual acuity of 0.2 improved to 0.5 after surgery, and the follow-up period was uneventful.
Conclusions:
After careful patient selection and with meticulous surgery the combined procedure can be considered to solve the two problems of cataract and severe vitreous opacities in one session.
