Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess the visual outcome of eyes undergoing Anterior chamber foldable phakic lens implantation(Artiflex and verflix) for myopia unsuitable for LASIK

Setting:

Sohag faculty of medicine Egypt

Methods:

A retrospective analysis of 25 eyes of 16 patients underwent Anterior chamber foldable phakic IOL implantation for correction of myopia ,all patients were unsuitable for LASIK .

Results:

A total of 25 eyes from 16 patients were reviewed. Follow-up ranged from 24 to 42 months, mean 17.3 months. At final follow-up, 14 of the 25 eyes (56 %) achieved best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) better than that measured pre-operatively and 10 of the 25 eyes (40%) matched their pre-operative BCVA. 1 eyes, (0.04%) attained a final BCVA worse than pre-operatively, one due to recurrent uveitis.

Conclusions:

This study suggests that Anterior chamber foldable phakic IOL (iris claw lens insertion) is beneficial in myopia , unsuitable for LASIK , matching or exceeding pre-operative BCVA in the overwhelming majority of the cases. With no major complications. FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
