Abstract Details
Purpose:
To assess dysphotopsia in the Symfony IOL using the Carl Zeiss Meditec Glare Simulator.
Setting:
BMI Southend Hospital, UK
Methods:
The Zeiss Glare simulator was used to demonstrate dysphotopsia experienced by patients with bilateral implantation of the Tecnis Symfony IOL. All patients have post-op astigmatism of <1.00DC. A quality of vision questionaire was also used to assess difficulty due to dysphotopsia.
Results:
Dysphotopsia was noted in patients and the simulator was used to demonstrate this as an image. Patient note differing size halos depending on the colour of the light source, with dysphotopsia being greatest with yellow light.
Conclusions:
The extended focus range and achromatic design of the Symfony, using corneal chromatic aberration to extend the range of focus, may minimise dysphotopsia in some wavelengths of light, however is still noted in the yellow range of the spectrum FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
