Abstract Details

Purpose:

To determine the visual performance, efficacy and safety of the Symfony Extended range of vision IOL in patients who have had prior laser refractive surgery

Setting:

Optimax and Ultralase Eye Clinics UK

Methods:

This was a pilot study where 10 patients where enrolled. They underwent bilateral refractive lens exchange and bilateral implantation of the Symfony IOL. The patients were followed up at 1 week, 1 month and 3 months post operatively. Photic phenomena rates and patents satisfaction was documented. The ASCRS IOL Post Refractive surgery Calculator was used to assist in IOL power calculations. In addition the Optovue AS OCT was used to provide an additional True Corneal power measurement.

Results:

Mean age was 53.6 years +/- 5.7. 8 were male patients and 2 were female. AT 3 months follow up 83.3% of patients achieved 20/25 binocular uncorrected visual acuity or better. 91.7% achieved binocular intermediate visual acuity of 20/25 or better.100% of patients achieved binocular uncorrected near visual acuity of N8/J4 or better. There were high levels of patients satisfaction and no significant reports of dysphotopsia.

Conclusions:

The Symfony IOL in this small study is effective in patients who have a history of prior laser refractive surgery. FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
