Abstract Details
Purpose:
To determine the refractive outcome of phacoemulsification combined with DMEK.
Setting:
Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicestershire, United Kingdom
Methods:
Eleven eyes (9 patients) with various degree of Fuch’s endothelial dystrophy underwent DMEK combined with phacoemulsification by a single surgeon (VS). The postoperative manifest refractive and best corrected visual acuities (BCVA) were measured. The deviation from target refraction was calculated.
Results:
The mean age of the patients was 64 years old. The median preoperative BCVA was logMAR 0.4 (range 0.3 to 0.6). One DMEK failed and was excluded. The median postoperative BCVA was logMAR 0.1 (range 0.0 to 0.3). The manifest refraction was performed at median of 3.8 months (range 2 to 23) postoperatively. The mean target spherical equivalent was -0.47D (SD 0.32). The mean postoperative manifest spherical equivalent was +0.75D (SD 0.92) (range -1.00 to +2.25). The mean deviation from target refraction was +1.22D (SD 0.83) (range -0.30 to +2.85).
Conclusions:
The refractive outcome of combined DMEK and phacoemulsification yielded a tendency towards hyperopia. A target refraction of -1.5D should be considered in these eyes. FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
