Purpose:
To report clinical features of Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome (ARS) in monozygotic twins
Setting:
Umraniye research and training hospital
Methods:
Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome (ARS) is a rare condition manifesting as a heterogeneous group of features. Of particular note are the ocular and dental features such as hypodontia, microdontia, taurodontism, enamel hypoplasia, conical-shaped teeth, shortened roots and delayed eruption.Two monozygotic twin brothers at three years of age with Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome (ARS) were referred to our center
Results:
Typical components of ARS were found in both patients, including iris anomaly, hypodontia, microdontia, conical-shaped teeth and umbilical herniation which has been surgically corrected. Intraocular pressures of the both patients were at normal ranges. Dilated fundus examination were revealed normal retinal examination .
Conclusions:
Axenfeld rieger syndrome can be associated with glaucoma in 50 % of the cases. This is the second report described monozygotic twins with ARS in the international literature. FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
