Purpose:
To evaluate the outcome of recurrent pterygium excision one week after sublesional injection of bevacizumab and intraoperative mitomycin c application with subtenon triamcinolon injection (Quadrible Technique).
Setting:
Sohag faculty of medicine, Egypt
Methods:
In an interventional prospective study, 20 patients with recurrent pterygia underwent sublesional injection of bevacizumab (Avastin) (1.25mg0.1ml) one week later surgical excision was performed with mitomycin C application and the end of surgery triamecinolone acetate (10 mgml) was injection subtenon in Ophthalmology department of Sohag University Hospital and the eyes were operated on by a single surgeon. All cases were followed up for 2 years and the results were evaluated iterms of recurrent pterygium growth and complications.
Results:
Twenty eyes of 20 patients (14 males and 6 females) with mean age 44±8.2years were operated. The pterygia extended onto the corneas for 3.9±1.2 (range 2.7-5.1) mm. during the 24 months follow up no recurrence was detected and no complications were reported.
Conclusions:
This Quadriple technique is safe and effective surgical technique with no recurrence rate but longer follow up period is mandatory. FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
