Abstract Details

Purpose:

To examine choroidal thickness in patients with adult onset vitelliform macular dystrophy.

Setting:

Etfal Training and Research Hospital / Department of Ophthalmolgy.

Methods:

Data of patients who were diagnosed with adult onset vitelliform macular dystrophy (AOVMD) were evaluated for (Study group) demographic characteristics, complaints, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and scans of spectral domain optical coherence topmography (SD-OCT). Measurements of central macular thickness (CMT), temporal parafoveal choroidal thickness (TPFCT), subfoveolar choroidal thickness (SFCT) and nasal parafoveal choroidal thickness (NPFCT) were performed with enchanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT). Height and base width of macular lesion were measured in patients with AOVMD. Control group included healthy participants. Data of patients and healthy participants were compared .

Results:

Study group included 36 eyes of 18 patients (11 female, 7 male, mean age: 61.3±10.2) with AOVMD and control group included 50 eyes of 25 healthy participants (15 female, 10 male, mean age: 61.4±6.5), (p=0.992). Mean TPFCT, SFCT and NPFCT were 266±31; 248±71, 272±30; 233±28, 264±30; 235±31 µm (p=0.000, p=0.00, p=0.000) in the study and control groups, respectively. Average height and base width of lesion were 149±112 and 796±507 µm, respectively. The height and base width of lesion were negatively correlated (r=-0.435; p=0.008; r = -0.563; p=0.000) with BCVA, respectively.

Conclusions:

TPFCT, SFCT and NPFCT were thicker than healthy participants in patients with AOVMD. BCVA has a negative correlation with height and base width of lesion of AOVMD. FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
