Abstract Details
Purpose:
To describe a self-made smartphone adaptor which can be attached to a surgical microscope and a smartphone telescope. It can be wirelessly linked to a LED TV or monitor for live viewing.
Setting:
This study has been carried out in Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia, Kelantan, Malaysia and Hospital Tuanku Jaafar Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia.
Methods:
A smartphone slit lamp adaptor is built for microscope-assisted ocular surgery in which video can be recorded. We also used a smartphone to attach to a telescope for loop-assisted surgery. Both surgery videos are then wirelessly streamed to a TV/monitor using EZCast or Apple TV.
Results:
The video captured by a smartphone is comparable to conventional digital video recording. It is cheaper, easy to use and portable.
Conclusions:
Smartphone videography will be a valuable instrument in ophthalmology for both teaching and research purpose. FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
