Abstract Details

Purpose:

Experimental study of the effect of a new chitosan hydrogel polymer in the form of a biodegradable surface lenses on the cornea of rabbits during the treatment of corneal erosions.

Setting:

Surgut State University/Centre Bioengineering RAS

Methods:

The experiment involved 30 individuals of Chinchilla rabbits. In the first stage, experimental modeling of traumatic erosions of the cornea by the method of S. Hanna, J. E. O'brien in the optical zone of the cornea. Traumatic erosion of the right eye is covered with a biodegradable surface lens from chitosan-gel polymer. Erosion of the left eye was the control group. The condition of the corneal epithelium was evaluated by contact specular endothelial microscope. Histopathological study of experimental and control eyes after 3 (15 animals) and 7 days (15 individuals) after experimental simulation of erosion.

Results:

Cellular response involving fibroblasts, inflammatory reaction in the stroma, expressed the migration of macrophages and lymphocytes, are more pronounced in the case of biodegradable surface lens 3 a day. No need to remove biodegradable lens from the surface of the damaged cornea is an advantage in regulating the process of restoring the integrity of the cornea.

Conclusions:

Given the marked benefits of using bio surface of the lens in cases of traumatic corneal erosions, it is recommended conduct clinical trials. FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
