Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the long- term results of Phototherapeutic Keratectomy (PTK) in treatment of corneal granular dystrophies
Setting:
Beyoglu Eye Training and Research Hospital
Methods:
Thirty-three eyes of twenty-three patients who underwent excimer laser PTK for corneal granular dystrophies were retrospectively evaluated. In all eyes visual acuities, refractive status and corneal high order abberations were measured before and after the procedure. The depths of corneal opacities were evaluated by using anterior segment optic coherens tomography.
Results:
The average of follow-up was 26.4 ±4.0(23-32) months. Postoperative visual acuity and best corrected visual acuity were both significantly increased in 12nd and 24th months (p=0.00,p=0.01 ve p=0.00, p=0.00). Postoperatively hiperopic shift was found 1,4 ± 2.0 dioptri (D) in 12nd month and 1,05±2,26 D in 24th month. There was no significant difference between preoperative and postoperative corneal astigmatism. A clinicaly significant reduction in total highorder corneal abberations, coma and trefoil. But there was no significant difference between pre and postoperative spheric aberrations. ( p=0.00, p=0.00, p=0.02, p=0,294 ).
Conclusions:
Excimer laser phototherapeutic keratectomy is a safe and effective procedure in treatment of corneal granular dystrophies also it reduces keratoplasty requirement FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
