Abstract Details
Purpose:
To present three cases of herpetic keratitis with multiple dendritic ulcers developped in three patients with pulmonary disease treated with inhaled steroids.
Setting:
Department of Ophthalmology, General Hospital of Lamia, Lamia, Greece
Methods:
All three patients (83, 79 and 45 years old) presented with tearing and blurred vision in one eye without signs of ocular inflammation, three to five days after initiation of steroid treatment. All patients were given systematic famciclovir for 14 days and topical artificial tears.
Results:
all three cases resolved. In the 45yo patient keratitis resolved after 20 days of systematic treatment with famciclovir.
Conclusions:
herpetic keratitis with multiple dendritic corneal ulcers in pulmonary patients treated with inhaled steroids may appear with rather mild symptoms. Proper treatment with systemic antivirals is effective in these patients. FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
