Abstract Details
Purpose:
To determine the changes in hydrodynamic and biomechanical parameters after phaco depending upon the eye length.
Setting:
Moscow Region Scientific Research Clinical Institute, Moscow, Russian Federation
Methods:
The study included 75 eyes of 75 patients who underwent uncomplicated phaco with IOL implantation. All patients had normal IOP values and no glaucoma before phaco. The eye length in myopic group was 24,50-28,93mm, in emmetropic group 23,00-24,49mm, and in hyperopic group 20,92-22,99mm. Examination included standard techniques and measurement of corneal hysteresis, corneal compensated intraocular pressure (IOP) and Goldman IOP by Ocular Response Analyzer.
Results:
Corneal hysteresis decreased on the first day after cataract phacoemulsification from 10,55±1,87 mm Hg to 8,57±2,01mm Hg in hyperopic group, from 9,70±1,44 mm Hg to 8,75±1,87mm Hg in emmetropic group and from 9,56±1,56 mm Hg to 9,23±1,92mm Hg in myopic group.
Intraocular pressure raised the first day after surgery by 5 mm Hg in hyperopic group and remained practically unchanged in myopic and emmetropic groups. 2 weeks after surgery IOP decreased in comparison with preoperative values by 4 mmHg in hyperopic group, and by 2 mm Hg in myopic and emmetropic groups.
Conclusions:
Changes of IOP and corneal hysteresis after phaco depend upon eye length.
Corneal hysteresis decreased in the early postoperative period after phaco, with maximum reduction in hyperopic group. Intraocular pressure raised the first day after phaco and decreased 2 weeks after surgery, maximum changes also in hyperopic group. FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
