Abstract Details
Purpose:
To describe the long-term clinical results of the implantation of the Ophtec iris prosthetic system with simultaneous IOL implantation in 4 eyes of 4 patients with traumatic cataract and partial aniridia attributable to ocular trauma.
Setting:
The eye treatment centre, Whipps Cross University Hospital, London, UK.
Methods:
The electronic records of 4 patients were retrospectively reviewed. The nature and the extent of injury, age at IOL implantation, visual, refractive, and cosmetic outcome and complications were evaluated.
Results:
Mean follow-up period was 12 months (range, 6-16). Visual acuity improved in all eyes, complaints of photophobia were reduced, and a satisfactory cosmetic outcome was achieved in all patients. The mean spherical equivalent refractive error at the last follow-up was -0.50 ±0.50 D. No postoperative complications were observed.
Conclusions:
The Ophtec Iris prosthetic system with simultaneous IOL implantation is an excellent choice for the treatment of aniridia and traumatic cataract due to penetrating ocular trauma. FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
