Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess rotational stability and visual performance of the novel CE-marked TECNIS® Symfony Toric IOL

Setting:

Vienna Institute for Research in Ocular Surgery, Department of Ophthalmology, Hanusch Hospital, Vienna

Methods:

This prospective monocenter study included patients scheduled for cataract surgery in both eyes with a regular corneal astigmatism between 0.75D and 2.60D in the keratometry measurement. Pre-operatively, optical biometry (IOLMaster500, IOLMaster700) and topography were performed (Atlas; all three CZM AG, Germany). One hour, 1 week and 3 months after surgery retroillumination images were taken to measure rotational stability. Unaided and bestcorrected visual acuity were assessed using ETDRS charts (Precision Vision, USA). Additionally, contrast sensitivity was assessed using ETDRS low contrast charts and the Optec®6500 device(Stereo Optical Company). Additional a subjective questionnaire was handed out to evaluate patient´s satisfaction.

Results:

In total 60 eyes of 30 patients are included. Mean age was 65.3 y. Rotational stability was after one week 6.02° with a standard deviation of 5.45°. UCDVA was 0.16 logMar with a SD of 0.14 and BCDVA was 0.02 with a SD of 0.11 logMar. There was no correlation between the rotational stability and the axial lenght.

Conclusions:

There were no safety issues with the novel Symfony intraocular lens. Patients satisfaction was excellent with a high spectacle independence and a reduced occurence of photic phenomena. Rotational stability was good within the first week, 3 months results will be presented at the meeting. FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
