Abstract Details
Purpose:
A patient was noted to have late onset CMO following bilateral phacoemulsification and IOL implantation. Onset coincided with commencement of training for high altitude training expedition and sleeping in hypoxic conditions
Setting:
BMI Southend Hospital
Methods:
Patient was monitored and treated for CMO within normal regimes. His CMO subsided but recurred when hypoxic training sessions were recommenced
Results:
Cystoid macular oedema and subsequent reduction in VA was noted in patient while sleeping in hypoxic conditions, this subsided when training was stopped/treatment commenced, This recurred when hypoxic conditions were re-introduced
Conclusions:
The CMO appears linked to the hypoxic conditions that high altitude climbers are required to train in and thus it is likely that CMO may occur in high altitude conditions also FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
