Single incision and single hand phacoemulsification

Abstract Details

Purpose:

The aim of this study is to evaluate the safety and ease of performing phacoemelsification of cataract with IOL implant technique for better visual outcome.

Setting:

Ophthalmology Department,Saudi German Hospital,Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Methods:

A total of 50 patients were included in the study having cataract of grade 1-3 without any ocular or systemic comorbid conditions. Ocular and systemic evaluation was performed. All surgeries were performed under local anesthesia. Main port incision was followed by filling the anterior chamber with viscoelastic, capsulorhexis and hydrodissection were done.A central bowel was made followed by hydrodelineation.Free rotation of the endonucleues was ensured.Aspiration phaco was performed .Soft lens matter was aspirated .Viscoelastic was filled in the A/C and intraocular lens was implanted, and centered in the bag.Viscoelastic was removed by irrigation and aspiration.Main port incision was closed.

Results:

Patients were followed up for 3-12 months.There was no evidence of postoperative corneal edema .Patients had smooth recovery of vision and rapid visual rehabilitation.

Conclusions:

This technique of performing phacoemulsification appears to be safe,easy to learn and teach having minimal risks of complications and with promising results. FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
