Visual performance of the symfony extended range of vision IOL and the AT Lisa tri 839 IOL

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare visual performance and patient satisfaction 3 months after surgery between an extended range of vision IOL (Symfony) and a diffractive trifocal IOL (AT Lisa tri).

Setting:

Optimax and Ultralase Eye Clinics, UK

Methods:

A total of 50 consecutive refractive lens exchange patients was implanted bilaterally with the Symfony IOL and another 50 consecutive patients with the AT Lisa Tri 839 IOL. The patients were followed-up at 1 week, 1 month and 3 months after surgery. Monocular and binocular uncorrected distance and near visual acuity was measured. Photic phenomena rates and patient satisfaction were documented.

Results:

Mean age of the Symfony group was 56 +/- 6.9 years. The AT Lisa try group with a mean age of 58+/- 7.4 years. At 3 months, the Symfony and AT LISA tri groups achieved a binocular UCDVA 0.1 LogMar (20/25) or better in 98.7% and 93.5%, respectively. Uncorrected binocular near visual acuity was N8/J4 or better in 91% of Symfony patients and 97% of AT Lisa tri patients. A total of 96 % of Symfony patients rated their results as worthwhile or better compared to 98% in the AT Lisa tri group.

Conclusions:

Both investigated IOLs produced excellent results with highly satisfied patients. There is a tendency of marginally better levels of uncorrected near visual acuity with the AT LISA tri IOL while the Symfony produced better uncorrected distance visual acuity results. FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
