Abstract Details
Purpose:
To report two cases Capsular Bag Distention, a rare complication after cataract surgery, showing the utility of the Pentacam / Scheimpflug images.
Setting:
Tertiary Care Center, Ophthalmology Service, Cataract and Primary Eye Care Unit
Methods:
Two cases/eyes of two patients with a non-complicated cataract surgery and IOL implantation (Alcon SN60WF). Patients refered in a routine visit poor visual acuity and lower satisfaction with no refractive changes relation. In the slit-lamp biomicroscopy had observed a turbidity of the fluid behind the IOL. Pentacam / Scheimpflug demonstrated the diagnosis of Capsular Bag Distention.
Results:
Using Pentacam / Scheimpflug pictures, assisted to diagnose and evaluate morfological changes and characteristic clinical findings of that syndrome. In the same way, allowed the result of the treatment after Nd:YAG Laser Posterior Capsulotomy.
Conclusions:
Pentacam / Scheimpflug imaging revealed (in our opinion) like 'gold standard' to diagnose the Capsular Bag Distention Syndrome. These patients generally had poorer visual outcomes and lower satisfaction. Intraocular lens design, OVD and patient factor like dimensions of the eyes (axial length, white-to-white) significantly influenced in this syndrome. FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
