Purpose:
Hermann Boerhaave was an inspired teacher and a great physician who's his clinical thought dominated during the 18th century. We present the collection of his lectures to his students concerning the conditions of the eye.The book was published by his pupil Albrecht von Haller
Setting:
A' Ophthalmologic Clinic of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, AHEPA Hospital
Methods:
We studied the collections of his lectures published by his students concerning the diseases of the eye. We focuse especially to his descriptions concerning the cataract treatment as well as about some other conditions
Results:
Hermann Boerhaave (1668-1738) was an great teacher , an experienced clinical physician, a connoisseur of the medical knowledge of his era, an admirer of the Hippocratic medicine, a clinical pioneer and a competent surgeon.
Conclusions:
Boerhaave was not only a great physician , but also a philosopher of Medicine with a deep scientific knowledge,and a prominent member of the European Medical community during the 18th century. He is considered as the father of the clinical diagnostic practice. He worked in the field of Ophthalmology as we can see at the presenting work. FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
