Abstract Details
Purpose:
To present an alternative surgical technique for dealing with posterior capsular fibrosis during cataract surgery.
Setting:
“Diathlasis” Thessaloniki Day Care Unit, Greece
Methods:
A 65 year old female patient was submitted to cataract surgery. After completion of nucleus phacoemulcification and cortical matter aspiration we encountered a highly resistant posterior capsular fibrosis. When all other methods had failed we decided to proceed with capsulorhexis forceps. The outcome was successful .
Results:
While other methods, like polishing with aspiration probe or with viscoelastic cannula, were proven ineffective, we managed to remove posterior capsular fibrosis using the capsulorhexis forceps. With gentle maneuvers and use of viscoelastic posterior capsular rupture and other complications were avoided. The completion of cataract surgery was successful and the patient had an uncomplicated post-operative visual recovery.
Conclusions:
We consider this technique to be a good alternative for dealing with difficult cases of resistant posterior capsular fibrosis, when all other techniques have failed. FINANCIAL DISCLOUSRE: NONE
