Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess the efficiency of a new technique to treat residual myopia and myopic astigmatism after RelExSMILE procedure with preservation of Bowman s membrane

Setting:

Eye Subspcialty Center , Cairo, Egypt

Methods:

The study comprised consecutive patients who underwent RelExSMILE procedure and showed post operative myopia or/and myopic astigmatism, with our new technique we aimed to preserve the anterior corneal stroma including the Bowman's membrane which is the main advantage of the technique, the data of 20 eyes were collected retrospective , the technique depend on ablating new lenticule by creating a new inferior cut ablation and a new side cut with smaller ablation zone of 0.2 mm less than the primary lenticule

Results:

The 20 eyes were enrolled in the study were treated with RelExSMILE procedure and showed post operative residual myopia ranging from -0.75D to -3.0D and astigmatism ranging from-0,50DC to -1.75DC , all under-corrected eyes were done with our new technique starting from one month up to six months post the primary treatment. all eyes showed stable post operative refraction ranging from +0.25D to -0.75D , we also designed a simple technique for re-treatment lenticule centration which is a crucial for the technique, videos will be present for both the marking and re-treatment techniques including post procedure OCT

Conclusions:

The new RelExSMILE re-treatment technique ( SEDKY technique) is proven to be simple, efficient and predictable with great advantage regarding preserving the anterior corneal stroma including the Bowman's membrane and safer than other procedure previously described like PRK, and performing new LASIK Flap , we are in the process of establishing a nomogrm for the procedure and designing a new marker for the marking step
