Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare SIA after penetrating procedures and non- penetrating glaucoma surgeries.

Setting:

Ophthalmology Department of Military Institute of Medicine in Warsaw, Poland

Methods:

It is a retrospective analysis of 37 glaucoma patients operated in Military Institute of Medicine by a single surgeon. Combined glaucoma and cataract procedures were performed. To assess corneal curvature autorefractometry, and Easy-Graph topography were done. Keratometric and refractive outcomes were evaluated by vector analysis. The refraction vertex distance, keratometric index of refraction and corneal asphericity were used for calculation to compare both group data. Aggregate astigmatism was calculated after converting polar values of astigmatism to Cartesian values.

Results:

Preoperatively, mean corneal astigmatism for penetrating procedures was 0,84±0,51D, Me 0,83D, whereas it was 0,98±0,73D for non penetrating procedures Me 0,77D . 180 days postoperatively mean astigmatism for penetrating surgeries was 1,08±0,67D, Me 0,83D , and respectively 1,07±0,72D ,Me 0,95D. SIA was 0,23D in penetrating, 0,07D in nonpenetrating surgery(P>0.05). The aggregate astigmatism for penetrating procedures was 0,13D ax150σ=0,5 at day 0, and 0,32D ax3 σ=1,5 at day 180. For non-penetrating procedures respectively 0,21D ax56 σ=1,1 and 0,4D ax 65 σ=1,8.

Conclusions:

Conclusions: SIA was law and similar in both groups (p>0.05). In penetrating procedures the axis of aggregate astigmatism shifted from with the rule to oblique, whereas for non penetrating procedures, it was oblique preoperatively and did not change postoperatively.
