Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the optical, functional outcomes and patients satisfaction after Implantation of asymmetric multifocal LENTIS Comfort toric.

Setting:

eye clinic Cham, Janahof 2, 93413 Cham, Germany

Methods:

In a prospective case study from July 2010 until February 2011 we implanted LENTIS Mplus-toric in 20 eyes of 16 patients with cataract an astigmatisms of 1,5-2,75 D, after coaxial micro phacoemulsification trough 2,2 mm incision. We evaluated the preoperative refraction, wave front, postoperative uncorrected (UCVA), best corrected (BCVA) for distance and post-op refraction. Distance corrected intermediate, near visual acuity, contrast sensitivity and wave front results were tested. The follow up was three months after implantation. The quality of vision, glare, halos and the personal satisfaction of the patients was assessed with a validated questionnaire.

Results:

Three months after the Implantation the mean UCVA for distance was 0,8; the BCVA was 0,83 ,the mean refraction-0,35D the intermediate visus 0,72 , the near 0,6. None of the patients needed the glasses for working on PC 70% were able to read without glasses.. 90% of the patients were satisfied with the achieved results,10% moderately satisfied,

Conclusions:

The LENTIS Mplus-toric provides a very good visual acuity for distance, intermediate and near. The additional astigmatisms correction was not necessary. The independence of glasses and satisfaction after 3 months was very high
