Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the visual and refractive outcomes, as well as the reproducability of Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE) in hyperopia & hyperoic astgmatism.
Setting:
Roaya Vision center
Methods:
SMILE procedure was performed for patients with hyperopia & hyperopic astigmatism. The preoperative refractive errors, UCVA and BCVA were recorded. The residual refractive error, UCVA and BCVA were recorded up to 1 year postoperatively.
Results:
53 eyes of 28 patients underwent SMILE procedure. Mean follow up was 7 months (range 2-12 months). The mean UCVA (Snellen decimal) changed from 0.14 (range, 0.05-0.3) preoperatively to 0.88 (range, 0.7-1) postoperatively. The mean BCVA changed from 0.73 (range, 0.5-0.9) preoperatively to (range, 0.6-0.9) 0.8 at last follow up postoperatively. There was no loss of lines of UCVA nor BCVA in any of our patients postoperatively.
Conclusions:
SMILE procedure for the correction of hyperopic astigmatism is a reproducible procedure with good visual outcomes yet it still need optimization and long term follow up is needed
